Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) or “Lymphatic Massage” is a specialized massage technique that gently stimulates the lymphatic system to promote the flow of lymph fluid, often used to reduce swelling and improve lymphatic function. Lymphatic Massage involves light, rhythmic hand movements that encourage the lymphatic system to move fluid and waste products. This is performed movements that encourage the lymphatic system to move fluid and waste products. This is performed on specific areas of your body, directing lymphatic fluid through lymph vessels and lymph nodes, then into the blood stream where they are cleared by the liver, colon and kidneys.

Benefits that can be experienced with the use of Manual Lymphatic Drainage include:

  • Reduced swelling: MLD can help reduce swelling (edema) caused by fluid buildup in the

    tissues.

  • Improved lymphatic function: It can encourage the lymphatic system to work more effectively,

    enhancing detoxification.

  • Pain relief: Some people find that MLD can help relieve pain associated with swelling and lymphatic congestion, common experiences for patients undergoing treatment for chronic infections or environmental toxicity.

  • Cognitive function: MLD is a way to combat one of the most frustrating symptoms of Lyme disease: brain fog - a feeling head fullness and pressure, mental fatigue, confusion, word loss, delayed response time, sensory overload, and other neurological symptoms.
