Contraindications for Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon Hydrotherapy is considered very safe for most individuals but is not advised for those with

certain health conditions. Colon therapy is a procedure that helps with a variety of chronic digestive

issues as well as to support detoxification. Categories of contraindications include:

  • Gastrointestinal/Abdominal:

    • Unmanaged constipation

    • Active anal fissures

    • Fistulas

    • Severe hemorrhoids

    • Tight sphincter

    • Active diverticulitis

    • Unstable Crohn’s Disease

    • Unstable Ulcerative Colitis

    • Abdominal and inguinal hernias

    • Cirrhosis of the liver

    • Abdominal aortic aneurysm

  • Cardiovascular:

    • Recent heart attack

    • Severe cardiac disease

    • Uncontrolled high blood pressure

    • Low blood pressure

    • Congestive heart failure

  • Hematologic

    • Active anemia

    • Use of injectable blood thinners

  • Neurologic/Psychiatric:

    • Unmanaged seizure disorder

    • Epilepsy

    • Psychosis

  • Kidney/Bladder:

    • Renal Insufficiency (creatinine > 2.0)

    • Unmanaged bladder diseases

  • Other:

    • Pregnancy

    • Abdominal surgery within 6 months

    • Abdominal tumors

    • Chemotherapy OR radiotherapy either being currently received, or received within the last 12 months

    • Uncontrolled diabetes

    • Eating disorders

    • Hip or Knee surgery within the last 6 months
